4-H Camp Recruitment Carnival

On Tuesday, May 14 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. under the Farmer’s Market Pavilion we are hosting a 4-H Camp Recruitment Night. This year’s summer camp theme is “Under the Big Top” so we are having a camp style recruitment carnival. Play games, meet some of our camp leaders & campers, and participate in some mini-camp classes.  This is a free event and there will be a food truck on hand for anyone wanting to purchase supper.

If you’ve camped before, or just love camp, we could use your help at this event! Use the link to sign up to run a game booth on Tuesday night!

Congratulations to Miss Kate Ford, Incoming Kentucky 4-H Reporter

“Hello everyone, I am so honored to be able to serve each and every one of you this year as a 2024-2025 state officer. I have grown up in 4-H, starting at the Cloverbud level, and ever since that first meeting, I have had a passion for the organization and the meaning of the coveted green jacket. Over the years I have actively participated in numerous clubs, competed at state and national contests, and served in many offices and numerous councils and committees. 4-H has truly laid the foundation for leadership in my life, and I am so excited to be able to give back with a year of service. Just like seeds need nutrients to germinate, younger 4-Hers need nutrients, such as nurturing & mentorship from older members. My goal is for older members to supply the nutrients so that the seeds can grow in 4-H.”

Simpson Co. 4-H Fundraiser Policy

Any youth enrolled in Simpson Co. 4-H can set up a member account. When you work a 4-H fundraiser the proceeds are divided equally among those working and put into your member account for future 4-H activities. For example, if five 4-H members work a bake sale that makes $500, then $100 is deposited into each member’s account. These funds can be used to pay for 4-H Camp, Cloverbud Camp, Teen Conference, Horse Camp, etc.  If it is a fundraiser where you are selling something then you receive the profit from what you sell. For example, if you sold 10 donut certificates that have a profit of $4.50 each then you earned $45 into your account. Clubs can also fundraise for your club accounts.

For those families wanting to fundraise to help pay your camper fee, teen conference registration, fundraise for Lucky Spurs, etc. we have two fundraisers going on now through May 24:

  1. Selling Nothing Bundt Cakes for $7.00 each, then $2.00 from every cake sold will go into your member account to be used for camp fees, teen conference registration, the horse club, etc. (you tell us where you want your proceeds applied).  Orders with payment are due to the Extension Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24. Cakes must be picked up from the Extension Office and delivered on Monday, June 10 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  See the enclosed order taker – 4-H accepts Paypal, Cash, or Check.

  1.  4-H families can sell laundry detergents and other cleaning products now through May 24.  Enclosed is an order taker and below are the profits for each item sold.  This is the first time 4-H has offered this fundraiser and it’s one with great profits! Orders for this fundraiser are also due to the Extension Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24.  Items sold will be in mid-June for pick up & delivery. See the enclosed order taker – 4-H accepts Paypal, Cash, or Check.

Teen Conference

Teen Conference is a leadership conference for teens in high school. It’s held on the University of KY Campus June 11-14 and is for any high school student entering 9th grade this fall through age 18 as of 1/1/24. The cost is $250 and registration for this is something teens can fundraise towards. Registration packets are available at the Extension Office and the final day to register for teen conference is Tuesday, May 14 at the Extension Office.

Mammoth Cave Area Teen Council

The Area Teen Council is open to any teens 8th grade & up.  Contact Catherine by Friday, May 10 if you plan to attend and need a ride. Teens are also welcome to drive on their own. The meeting will be held on Monday, May 13 at Southern Lanes in Bowling Green at 5:30 p.m. We will meet in their party room for a brief business meeting.  Bring $20 for bowling, laser tag, bumper cars, etc. with pizza & soda.

Concessions Training

Simpson Co. 4-H will sell concessions at six Concerts on the Square this summer.  4-H families can work these concert concessions as a fundraiser for your member account and/or 4-H club. To work 4-H concessions you MUST attend a training. These trainings will be held on Monday, May 20 at 5:00 p.m. OR Thursday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m. For youth to work a concession fundraiser an adult (parent) MUST work with them.  Youth CANNOT be dropped off to work concessions– it takes manpower from both the youth & adults to make concessions possible!!!

If your family or club would like to work concessions this summer please contact the Extension Office to sign up for a date. When you sign up you must also let us know which training date you will attend and we will need the shirt sizes for those working. If a club is working a concert one leader must be trained and if your family is working at least one adult per family must be trained although I prefer everyone working attend the training!  Last year members earned over $100+ per concert worked toward their member account, weather permitting.

Concession dates available:

June 12 – Need four families to work this concert on the square from 4:00-9:30 p.m.

June 21 - Need four families to work this concert on the square from 4:00-9:30 p.m.

4-H “Housekeeping”

When 4-H members are texting Catherine and/or any other leaders please include your parent on the text too.  If a group text among multiple people, these are ok.  4-H follows the ‘rule of three’ as opposed to one-on-one texts between youth and adults.

When 4-H members are leaving club meetings, especially downstairs, a parent or adult should come inside to pick the youth up. Members should not walk to the upstairs parking lot and leaders should not leave the rest of the club unattended to walk a member out without confirmation the adult is present. I apologize if this is an inconvenience for anyone however; it is in the best interest/safety of our members!

4-H Sewing Club

The 4-H Sewing Club has several first year sewers this year and they can use some experienced seamstresses to assist them during the month of May to help get projects finished for the County Fashion Revue on May 30. If you would be willing to help out for the next few weeks please contact Catherine or Adrian Booher.

Extension Office at 270-842-1681 by May 23.  See the enclosed flyer.

Shooting Sports

To be in the 4-H Shooting Sports Club you must have attended a safety training held April 29 and May 9.  Anyone that signed up for the club last Fall but did not attend a safety training will be removed from the club.  The club has several new members and is full for the year.  If you attended a safety training to participate this summer you should have received a confirmation text from Catherine.  Also, please be sure to join the Simpson Co. 4-H Shooting Sports Legends closed Facebook group.  Club members please see the enclosed flyer on a shooting sports contest Warren Co. 4-H is hosting – contact the Simpson Co.
